Home Or Away? – The Future of WWE

27 Mar

Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Drew McIntyre, Wade Barrett, and Sin Cara.

What do these new exciting additions to the WWE roster all have in common?

Now throw in Edge, Rey Mysterio, Mason Ryan, Ezekiel Jackson, Kofi Kingston, Tyson Kidd, Christian, Vladimir Kozlov, William Regal, Yoshi Tatsu, David Hart Smith, The Great Khali, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Primo, Santino Marella, Ranjin Singh, El Hijo de Medico Asesino and Ricardo Rodriguez, and see if you can come up with the answer?

For those who haven’t got it yet, they are all not Americans.

2010 was the second most profitable year for WWE, but it wasn’t plain sailing all the way.

Pay-Per-View buy rates have been falling steadily in North America, ratings are barely holding up, down from their Attitude Era peak, but does that matter, as the domestic market is providing a smaller and smaller share of those profits, while the overseas share continues to rise.

That brings me to one Shane Brandon McMahon.

Remember him?

Son of Vincent K., a former executive and professional wrestler for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)

So what’s he doing these days?

These days Shane is serving as the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of YOU on Demand Holdings, Inc., or China Broadband, Inc., as they used to be known.

And who are YOU on Demand Holdings, Inc.?

They just happen to be to be the leading provider of Pay-Per-View and Video On Demand services in China, and China just happens to be the biggest untapped market in Sports Entertainment, with a domestic population 450% larger than that of the United States of America.

So what is the future for World Wrestling Entertainment?

Twenty-nine years ago Vincent K. McMahon purchased Capitol Wrestling Corporation Ltd from his father, with the dream of turning a territoral wrestling promotion into a coast to coast national company.

Twenty-nine years later it appears the dream is now to take that company to a whole new global audience.

Whatever happens next the company may never be the same again.

The WWE sure will have to make changes in the future but honestly I don’t think that “NOW” anything huge can happen which will have a huge effect on the company. I mean the things sure are not what they used to be but then WWE is not at its current position because of compulsion, its here because they want to be where they are now.

So as of now, I will wait and watch what the company does because as of now, It isn’t going anywhere. 😉
